North Carolina's Historic Beaufort Named "America's Coolest Small Town"

BEAUFORT, N.C. – Boasting more than 300 years of historical legacy, the town of Beaufort on the Crystal Coast – North Carolina’s Southern Outer Banks – has been named “America’s Coolest Small Town” for 2012 by Budget Travel magazine. First chosen by the publication out of 647 submissions to be a top 10 contender, Beaufort’s charm and history gained a loyal following of fans that voted throughout January 2012. The seventh annual “America’s Coolest Small Town” proved an intense competition evidenced by multiple website crashes on the final day as voting peaked.
Because the race was tight between the top two towns and voters were locked out during a crucial
